Lecture 8: Harmony, Contrast, Repetition, Unity
18:18Week 8: Harmony, Contrast, Repetition, Unity
Harmony + Contrast = Unity
Andy Warhol would be a great example of using Harmony, Contrast, Repetition and Unity, especially in his works of Pop Art. I was thinking that all these can be easily found in 2D art, why not try to find them in artworks that are 3D instead?
This made me think of Damien Hirst.
Damien Hirst
Glass, steel, silicone rubber, painted MDF, Insect-O-Cutor, cow’s head, blood, flies, maggots, metal dishes, cotton wool, sugar and water
It is amazing how this artwork can have harmony, contrast, repetition and unity. They might not be visual but in terms of concept. Although this might be different from what we are learning (NM2208 Principles of Visual Communication), it would be interesting to explore this area. The harmony of life and death; the contrast of life and death; the repetition of life and death; the unification of life and death.
(On a side note, I apologise for not having done all these lecture reflections beforehand.)
