Final Artwork
Observations/Thoughts:
This piece of artwork was done digitally. It was done as such as I felt that if it was done by collaging, some of the effects I wanted to achieve would be lost. The majestic Borzoi has variated sizes and is repeated. By incorporating a little of the exercises of negative and positive spaces, the borzoi has been cropped in such a way that the darker parts of the borzoi has been deleted and not included in this particular artwork. However, the main shape of the borzoi can still be discerned and it is obvious that the borzoi still looks like a dog here. What is more fascinating is that by deleting the supposed 'negative spaces' from the borzoi's original image, it allows the borzoi to blend in more with this particular artwork. The cats were deconstructed and only the eyes and mouth was used. The cat's features were used in a way that mimics the Chesire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. The first image was done by cutting and pasting onto the background image. The second image uses the "overlay" option from photoshop to make the features blend into the background more. This allows the subtle insinuation of the wonders of venturing into the forest. When the features do not fade into the darkness, it does not bring out the hints of the wonders of the forest.
However, the meaning changes when all these elements are added into the forest image. From a peaceful and enlightening forest image to a ghostly, disturbing image, the final artwork takes a sharp turn from the meaning it is conveying. It becomes a forest that is guarded by dogs that are dressed up (as if those like in the ancient Egypt) where horror lies ahead with the creepy eyes that shine through the forest and stares right at the audience.

It feels different to do this work digitally as opposed to doing it manually. There are many nuances that collaging will not be able to achieve (although with tweaks here and there during printing, it should be able to be achieved).
