Game Plan
Response
The final is all in loose pages as if they do not belong together. These pages seem to be rather old and crinkly, however, some of the font that was chosen for the monsters in Book of Monsters does not match the overall feel.
Description
There is a page from the Book of Quests which is different from the other pages which are seemingly from the Book of Monsters. Like what, the page from the Book of Quests seems to be rather new and well-polished, unlike the pages in Book of Monsters which are rather old - the edges are even burnt. Lastly, there are annotations on the Book of Monsters, seemingly to be written by humans.
Analysis and Interpretation
The entire feel of this final seems to be rather old and as if from a game - what with Quests and Monsters. There seems to be an idea of letting the audience play and take part in the game where the audience gets to take part in the quest- after all, they know what is going to happen and what needs to be done.
The material that was used was rather fitting, where there are different variations of paper. The old textured paper also gives a sense of old parchment, where these kind of 'ancient' books are usually printed on. Furthermore, the pages from the Book of Monsters are seemingly burnt, and even older. This makes the monsters look even more 'ancient' and in other words, 'stronger'. The Book of Quests page is newer, and even tied with a ribbon, as if it was given to the audience. When Quests are given, people will accept if they are willing to go on the quest to complete.
The annotations on the Book of Monsters makes the pages look more personalised and makes the font on the first page looks less outstanding (as there are a lot of annotations). This makes people wonder what exactly is printed on the Book of Monsters when it was first published. The annotations also make the quest more humanised where it seems that there are people who have undergone this entire ordeal to search for the materials to complete the quest. Furthermore, this kind of explains why these pages are lost. They are probably lost due to some "race" as these people going on the quests took these pages out of the book and did not return them.
Lastly, the addition of the printed analysis and description on each of the pages seem apt and fitting. This makes the pages look like they are torn from the book.
Evaluation and Judgment
Perhaps it would have been better if there were more thinking and exploration done to this project. After all, at first glance, these images does not seem to fit into the idea of a narrative. The interpretation needed for each page would rely on the first page - the page from the Book of Quest. In other words, without the page, there will be no glue and hence, no narrative to the lost pages. In addition, the images could have been better well-polished. Perhaps, doing it digitally would have more impact than to doing it manually. Perhaps, there should be more information about each monster on each page to increase the reliability of this Book of Monsters.
I liked how the pages turned out to be okay after burning it. The art of burning the paper makes it scary for the artist. After all, we cannot control fire and what if the fire goes out of hand and it destroys the entire artwork? Yet, that might be good as well, since I am trying to create the feel of "lost" and what is "lost" without slight wear and tear?
